Discussion:
[webmin-l] SARG - scheduled jobs doesn't run

Hi all,

I'm testing the sarg module and in 'Scheduled Report Generation' I set it
to schedule a daily report at midnight.

This report generation is not happening. I noticed webmin added the
following line to my crontab:
@daily /etc/webmin/sarg/generate.pl

If i run the perl script above by hand, nothing happens too.

But if I run /usr/bin/sarg by hand, then the reports are generated
correctly.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you all,

The problem may be that Cron on your system doesn't support the @daily
time specification. Try clicking on the Scheduled Report Generation
icon, selecting 'Times and dates selected below ..' and choose 0 for the
minutes and 0 for the hours, and All for everything else.

Hi Jamie,

I do believe that my system doesn't accept the "@daily" symtax, but when I run the /etc/webmin/sarg/generate.pl
script by hand, nothing happens too. It seems that this script is not running the 'sarg' executable. When i run sarg by hand, the reports are generated.

Any idea?

Thank you,
bnegrao

How about if you generate the report from within Webmin itself, using
the Generate Report Now button?

Also, does it make any difference if you select a range of days to
report on, or not?

Hi Jamie,
Post by Jamie Cameron
How about if you generate the report from within Webmin itself, using
the Generate Report Now button?
Man I didn't find such a button in my Webmin! I'm running webmin 1.210 and sarg 2.0.8. I just found a "View Generated Report", that doesn't generate reports by itself.
Post by Jamie Cameron
Also, does it make any difference if you select a range of days to
report on, or not?
It creates a compatible line in crontab, like:
54 * * * * /etc/webmin/sarg/generate.pl

But still this script cannot generate the reports. Again, if I run this script *manually* it doesn't create the reports. But, again, they are created if I run sarg manually.

Jamie, thank you very much for your help and for webmin.
Big kiss,
bruno.

I see the cause of the problem now - the path to the Squid log file
hasn't been set yet on the 'Log Source and Report Destination' page.
In future, I will have the module display a more useful warning message
in this case :-)

Ok Jamie, we're waiting for this update. Until there I'll schedule the sarg command straight in my crontab.
